It's A Beautiful Day - West End Celebration Kick Off Party
As the closing festival celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, the 16th Annual West End Celebration flashes back to the sixties with David LaFlamme / It’s A Beautiful Day kicking off the three day event on Friday, August 25, from 7pm to 11pm at Carmel Stone Imports, 1725 Contra Costa Ave., in Sand City.
David LaFlamme / It’s A Beautiful Day’s multiple albums were laced with classic cuts such as their famous self titled 1st LP that included the iconic song “White Bird (In A Golden Cage)”. Many will never forget “Hot Summer Day”, “Bombay Calling,” “Girl With No Eyes”, “Wasted Union Blues”, “Time Is”, “Dolphins”, “Misery Loves Company,” and many more.
The band includes original member David LaFlamme on violin/vocals, Linda LaFlamme on vocals, original drummer Val Fuentes, 34 year veteran Toby Gray on bass, 14 year veteran Gary Thomas on keyboards, and Rob Cunningham on guitar.
They’ll perform the music of It’s A Beautiful Day along with newer original material, moving effortlessly from an almost folksy sound to ethereal jazz, from psychedelic to straight on rock & roll, performing selections from three recent CDs and over seven of their previous albums. The show is enhanced with David LaFlamme’s delightful reminiscing of the San Francisco Summer of Love experiences.
The Kick Off Party is a fundraiser for the West End Celebration and Guitars Not Guns. Also performing will be Amy Warren and WildCard.
Doors will open at 7 PM and tickets will be $25 in advance, and $30 at the door. To purchase advance tickets on-line, visit TIX.com, or stop by Post No Bills, Sweet Elena’s Bakery, or at Sand City Hall, in Sand City, or in Carmel at Do Re Mi Music, as well as the Pacific Grove Resource Center.
