Sala Kakuhle, Mama
by Jéhan Whittaker
Descendants of the Afrikan Diaspora have a complicated relationship with the Wilderness. Though our skin reflects the myriad tones in nature we are often excluded, and exclude ourselves, from using the Wilderness as a recreation and healing space in the 21st century. Sala Kakuhle, Mama will briefly examine our ancestors' journeys from Afrika, introduce the associated trauma, and tell a more detailed tale of our current relationship with the wilderness in the United States of America. Our backs as well as the backs of the historically oppressed are one of the scaffolds on which this country was born, raised, and continues to flourish. Sala Kakuhle, Mama is the story of Our relationship with the Earth as told by one woman.
