THE SITUATION ROOM #2 (Steve Staso/2004)
An installation film by the current installation designers…
screened within the new peepshow installation!
Situation Room #2 is a situationist/conceptual film with two theoretical constructs. One, there are no more narratives, only situations. Two, four people can change the world. It was filmed on an empty lot on the corner of 38th Street and 9th Avenue during the Republican National Convention in New York City. Once on the empty lot an installation of distressed plastic was erected. An assortment of New York performance artists including the current peepshow’s Julie Atlas Muz performed within the confines of the lot and structure. Simultaneously, the anti-war demonstrations were filmed, thus defining the rehearsal for the police state that surrounded the space. The last act in the Situation Room was the rock and roll band, Aqui, whose energy stood in defiance of the “fix” that was already securely in place. Situation Room #2 combines a 70’s punk sensitivity with a post 9-11 sensibility creating a cultural document at this point in our confused present.
