Tone Loc/DJ Playground - Sights & Sounds

Tone-Loc alias Tony Smith released his first single "Wild Thing" in 1989. His hoarse voice and a sample of Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'" made it to a No.1 hit in the USA. "Funky Cold Medina" followed the same way. The songs were co-written by Young MC. Also the first album "Loc'ed After Dark" hit the top of the pop charts, which was a breakthrough for rap.

1999 was the year for his comeback, when he recorded 'Y2K' versions of "Funky Cold Medina" and "Wild Thing" with ZZBros. Tone Loc signed with ZZMusic, and "Funky Cold Medina 'Y2K'" made the German Top 30. It has been released internationally as well. The US release (summer 2000) contains brand new mixes. New video shots for the songs have also been made - "Wild Thing" features a future Bond-girl. Tone has been performing the songs throughout Europe.

From a supporting role in the smash comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective to his gruff voiced raps on Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina, Tone Loc's style is always fresh.
